MERIDEN, Conn. — A six-year-old died in a go-kart crash near Kronenberger Park Tuesday evening, Meriden police said.
Officers arrived at Westview Drive at 7:45 p.m. for a report of a youth who was operating a go-kart and crashed near a gate in the park, police said.
Two children, ages four and six, were on the go cart. The six-year-old was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The boy was found with a serious head injury and was taken by Life Star to a local hospital, according to police. The four-year-old had no major injuries but was taken to Connecticut Children's Medical Canter for evaluation.
Police said family members were at the scene and are cooperating during their investigation.
Mayor Kevin Scarpati issued a statement expressing his condolences to the family. He praised Good Samaritans who helped before first responders arrived.
