MERIDEN, Conn. — As a woman who was hit by a car in Meriden this past April continues to recover, the driver who allegedly hit her is facing charges, seven months later.
Paige Cassina, 32, of Meriden, turned herself in to Meriden police on Friday. She was charged with tampering with evidence, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and evading responsibility.
Multiple 911 calls sent police to Bee St. in the late evening of April 4. Arriving officers found a 26-year-old woman on the sidewalk with life-threatening injuries. She was taken to an area hospital where she was listed in critical condition. Months later, she is still recovering, but has serious disabling injuries, police said.
Police determined that a driver had hit the woman and a car parked on the road and did not stop. Investigators used the passenger side wheel well to identify the suspect vehicle.
A witness followed the vehicle to Meadow Brook Drive, according to police. Officers canvassed the area, where they found more car parts, and obtained home surveillance footage that showed the suspect vehicle in the area. Police eventually found the suspect vehicle in a backyard on Meadow Brook Drive by following a set of tire marks in the grass. Police seized the car and identified Cassina as the driver.
Cassina was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 17.
