MERIDEN, Conn. — A teen was killed while driving in an SUV after it rolled off an exit ramp and crashed onto a soccer field in Meriden on Saturday afternoon.
Connecticut State Police said troopers responded at 2:50 p.m. to a report of a motor vehicle crash on 691 in the area of the Preston Ave exit where a vehicle went off the road and landed on a soccer field at Kronenberger Park.
State police determined that a 19-year-old, identified as Benjamin Morales, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee that had gone off the roadway into a cable barrier on the right shoulder.
The Cherokee began rolling down an embankment until it came to a final stop after colliding with a tree, state police said. Morales was thrown from the SUV during the rollover and was found dead at the scene.
The events leading up to the SUV going off the roadway are currently unknown.
State police ask anyone who either witnessed the crash or has information regarding their investigation to please contact Trooper Daniel McCue #792 at CSP Troop I, via their phone at 203-393-4200, or their email at Daniel.mccue@ct.gov.
Meriden police said that Kronenberger Park will be open for normal activities Sunday morning after being closed because of the crash.
