MERIDEN, Connecticut — Two men have been charged in a Meriden shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon.
Meriden police said they were contacted at 1:02 p.m. about a shooting outside 465 Crown Street. Several units were dispatched to the area to investigate.
Police determined that a man met with another unknown man in the parking lot of 465 Crown Street. One of the men then fired a round at the other as he fled the parking lot in a vehicle.
The shooting suspect then fled on foot into Crown Village at 525 Crown Street where he met up with a second male suspect and handed off the firearm to him.
The two individuals then enter building nine at 525 Crown St.
Members of the Meriden Police Patrol and Detective Division surrounded the building while waiting for the Meriden Police Department S.W.A.T. team to respond.
While officers were on scene, the two men believed to be involved in the shooting exited the building and were taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit with one of the suspects. Police recovered a 9mm handgun.
The shooting suspect was identified as Christopher Echevarria, 22. Echevarria is being charged with the following:
- Criminal attempt to commit assault in the first-degree
- Carrying a pistol without a permit
- Criminal use of a firearm
- Unlawful discharge
- Reckless Endangerment
Echevarria is being held on a $1 Million dollar bond.
The suspected accomplice was identified as Elshaddai Morris, 23. Morris was charged with the following:
- Criminal Possession of a firearm
- Carrying a pistol without a permit
- Violation of a protective order
- Interfering with Police
Morris is being held on a $500,000 bond for this case. Morris had three additional arrest warrants when he was taken into custody.
