MILFORD, Conn. — Authorities recently extradited a Brooklyn, N.Y. man to Milford to face charges of second-degree forgery and third-degree larceny, according to a release on Friday from the Milford Police Department.

An extraditable warrant was issued for Jermaine Nelson, 49, in April, and Milford detectives traveled to Rikers Island Correctional Facility in New York to take custody of him, police said.

According to the release, on Feb. 15, Milford police received a complaint regarding a stolen check that was altered. A female victim told police that she wrote a $5,000 check and mailed it to a company to pay her credit card bill.

About a month later, the company contacted the woman and informed her that her bill was unpaid. Police said their investigation revealed that the check was altered and forged.

Upon completing a search warrant, police said they discovered that Nelson was the suspect.

According to police, a $25,000 court set bond was placed on Nelson, and he was released after posting it. Nelson is set to appear in Milford court on Aug. 21.
