NAUGATUCK, Conn. — Naugatuck High School was placed in lockdown for a police investigation Wednesday afternoon. However, the mayor said the situation "has been resolved."
Naugatuck police responded to the high school around 1:50 p.m. to investigate a student's report of seeing a firearm in a backpack.
During the investigation, police conducted a sweep of the school with a specialized firearms detection K-9. Police also conducted interviews.
Police said no firearms were found. There were no injuries reported and no arrests have been made at this time.
"As our community expects, incidents relating to weapons are responded to swiftly and with a significant deployment of police resources. We thank school staff, students, and the community for their efforts for seeing this incident to its conclusion," Naugatuck police said.
Mayor Pete Hess tells FOX61 that the "incident has been resolved."
“They didn’t give us a lot of information besides that it was for real, and it wasn’t a drill,” said Naugatuck High School junior, Agnaldo Germano.
It was too close to home for parents and students a scare for all involved.
“This just hits too close to home. It happens all over the place and when you hear that it’s here, it’s kind of scary,” said Nathan Cruz.
