NAUGATUCK, Conn. — A Naugatuck officer has been placed on paid administrative leave following an investigation into the use of a taser during an arrest less than two weeks ago.
Naugatuck police said during an internal preliminary use of force review, they raised concerns regarding the use of a taser during an arrest that occurred on October 14. On that day while taking a suspect into custody on a robbery arrest, the officer used their taser three times.
After conferring with the Waterbury State’s Attorney’s Office, a criminal investigation was referred to the Connecticut State Police.
Naugatuck police have launched a separate but concurrent internal investigation by an outside law firm.
The officer involved in the incident has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Naugatuck police said that the person who was tased did not report any injuries at the time of the incident.
The Waterbury State’s Attorney's Office is in possession of body camera footage from this incident, and police anticipate its release to the public in the near future.
