NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A bicyclist who was injured in a crash last month claims a New Haven police cruiser cut him off, leading to him falling and suffering injuries. The officer involved denied any involvement, according to police.

Police said the crash happened on Nov. 15,  around 7:45 a.m., when they got reports of a bicyclist struck at the intersection of Orange Street and Edwards Street. The bicyclist was alert and conscious, according to officials.

When they arrived, officers found the bicyclist, who reported traveling on an electric bicycle in the bike lane northbound on Orange Street. As he approached Edwards Street, he was “cut off” by a police patrol vehicle, and he fell to the ground. The bicyclist then stated that his left elbow and knee were hurt from the crash. The New Haven Fire Department arrived on the scene to treat the injuries, and the bicyclist was not taken to the hospital for further treatment.

Police said a patrol supervisor conducting the investigation searched the area for surveillance footage and possible witnesses of the alleged crash. According to officials, a witness stated that she saw the bicyclist fall to the ground after the patrol vehicle turned in front of it but did not see a collision with a patrol vehicle.
