NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A deadly two-car crash in New Haven Monday night is under investigation, according to the city's police department.
At 9:46 p.m. Monday, officers went to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Bassett Street after receiving a report about a crash involving two cars, police said.
Based on preliminary information, police said they learned that a Toyota Sienna was traveling south on Dixwell Avenue and was attempting to turn left onto Bassett Street. A Nissan Versa was traveling north on Dixwell Avenue at the same time as the two cars collided.
The driver of the Nissan was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where they were pronounced dead, police said. They have not been identified at this time.
The driver and passenger who were inside the Toyota at the time were taken to local hospitals.
The New Haven Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash, and any witnesses or people with information are asked by police to call detectives at 203-946-6304 or the department's anonymous tip-line at 866-888-TIPS (8477).
