NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A former Corrections Officer at the New Haven Correctional Center was sentenced to five years in prison on Thursday for bringing narcotics into the Whalley Avenue facility.
Nicholas Kosa, 29, of Cheshire, pleaded guilty to one count of sale or possession with intent to sell a controlled substance on June 5. His five-year prison sentence is suspended after three years served and is followed by three years of probation.
Court records note that the Department of Corrections informed Connecticut State Police that one of their Correctional Officers was suspected of bringing narcotics into the correctional center.
Prosecutors say that an investigation found that Kosa admitted to having Suboxone and cocaine in his duffel bag at work. He told state police he was bringing in the narcotics for an inmate but was not looking to be paid for it.
Kosa also admitted to bringing Suboxone to the facility for an inmate a week earlier, according to prosecutors, who say that a total of 31 suboxone strips and 3.7 grams of cocaine were found in a blue latex glove among Kosa’s possessions.
State’s Attorney John Doyle thanked Connecticut State Police Troop I and Capt. Benjamin Borelli, as well as the Connecticut Department of Correction’s Security Division, who were aided by the Statewide Narcotics Task Force, for lending their support during the investigation.
