NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A former New Haven police officer has been arrested on sexual assault charges in connection with incidents that happened about a decade ago.
Jeremy Elliot was charged with Sexual Assault in the Second Degree. New Haven police said he was taken into custody by Connecticut State Police on Thursday and arraigned in court on Friday.
He was released on a $100,000 bond.
Officials said the allegations occurred while Elliott was employed as a School Resource Officer, and Police Athletic League (PAL) Officer. Elliot was employed with the New Haven Police Department from May 20, 2008, to December 31, 2021.
Police said the alleged assault was reported as occurring between the years of 2012 to 2014. The victim came forward with a complainant on March 1.
Investigators said Elliott was identified as the suspect in a sexual assault case involving a juvenile.
In response to this arrest, New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson released the following statement: “The New Haven Police Department takes all allegations of sexual assaults seriously. The city of New Haven deserves police officers who serve and protect and respect their authority. This type of alleged behavior will not be tolerated at the New Haven Police Department.”
