Good Samaritan disarms emotionally disturbed man waving illegal gun in front of New Haven elementary school: Police

Police say they found Earon Williamson, 34, lying on the ground naked in front of Lincoln-Bassett Elementary School.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A man waving an illegal gun in front of a New Haven elementary school was disarmed by a Good Samaritan on Wednesday, and now that suspect is facing multiple charges.

New Haven police said they received a report at 9:58 a.m. of an emotionally disturbed individual in the area of the Lincoln-Bassett Elementary School. Officers were also aware the man was in possession of a firearm.

Officers found a man lying naked on the concrete at the entryway of the school. He was identified as Earon Williamson 34, of New Haven. Williamson appeared to be disoriented.

Williamson was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital via ambulance under a committal for a psychiatric evaluation.

Officers canvassed the area to speak with potential witnesses and obtain surveillance footage of the incident.

At the time of the incident, all students and employees were inside the school and did not witness the incident.

A good Samaritan identified as Anthony Fulton, 61, disarmed Williamson without further incident.

Officers were told that Williamson exited a vehicle, and began to remove his clothing. Williams began to wave a handgun in the air before Fulton approached him.

Williamson was then disarmed by Fulton of the firearm prior to the officers’ arrival.

The recovered firearm was given to the officers on the scene.

There were no injuries during the incident.

  • Possession of a weapon on school grounds
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Carrying a pistol without a permit
  • Public indecency
  • Breach of peace

Williamson was arraigned in court on Thursday with a court-arraigned bond set at $200,000. He's currently in custody.
