NEW HAVEN, Conn — A man was reportedly struck and killed in a hit-and-run early Sunday morning, according to officials.
Police said they were notified at 1:28 a.m. about a person who was hit by a dark-colored car at the intersection of Ella T. Grasso Boulevard and Washington Avenue. The car reportedly left the scene after the collision.
New Haven Assistant Fire Chief Daniel Coughlin said fire crews, along with an American Medical Response crew, responded at about 2:30 a.m. to the scene.
A man in his 70s was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical crew, according to Coughlin. On Tuesday, police identified the man as 70-year-old Dennis Eaton of New Haven.
Police said that the New Haven Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Team was called to the scene and that investigators gathered evidence including interviews and video footage. Officers are continuing to gather information and ask anyone with details to call 203-946-6304 or the department's anonymous tip line at 866-888-TIPS (8477).
The area had been cleared by at least 7:30 a.m., Coughlin said.
The collision happened about six hours after a separate fatal crash was reported Saturday night around 8:30 p.m. on Hemingway Street and Russell Street.
