NEW HAVEN, Conn — Four firefighters were injured battling a third-alarm fire in New Haven on Thursday evening.
The New Haven Fire Department's office said that two of the firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion, and two suffered back injured and are ou pending follow-up checks. The two that suffered heat exhaustion are back to work.
The fire started at 1:20 p.m. on Thursday and it was a three-alarm fire.
There is significant damage to what is a commercial building. The second floor collapsed into the first floor, and the outer walls are also bowling, making the investigation challenging. Firefighters are on the scene Friday for the odor of gas as there was an improper gas hook-up which has been fixed. Chapel Street was closed briefly again.
There was no damage to neighboring structures but 26 residents from neighboring buildings were displaced.
There was a collapse of the interior of the building, which is an old commercial garage acting as a repair shop.
One person living in the house was also injured. all are expected to recover.
