NEW HAVEN, Conn — Two people are facing charges over a year after a fatal multi-vehicle crash killed a man in New Haven, police said.

The crash happened on Oct. 30, 2022, around 2:20 a.m., when police were contacted, receiving reports of a "serious accident" with injuries on Sargent Drive.

When officers got to the scene, they found five vehicles were involved in the crash.

According to investigators, 24-year-old David Takdharie was behind the wheel of a BMW M340X1 while 21-year-old Emily Murphy was driving a Subaru Impreza STI. Another driver, 30-year-old Carlos Gonzalez, was behind the wheel of a Honda Civic. All three cars were street racing on Sargent Drive, according to police.

While racing, the passenger side of the BMW crashed with the Subaru's passenger side, and the Subaru then collided with the Honda. The crash caused the Honda to cross the double-yellow line and hit head-on with another car driving southbound on the other side of the street.

Police said that seven people were taken to the hospital for treatment, but Gonzalez later died from his injuries.
