NEW HAVEN, Conn — New Haven police are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman found with gunshot wounds in a residence on Russell Street Thursday morning.
New Haven police said officers responded at 8:16 a.m. to a residence in the seven hundredth block of Russell Street on a report of two unresponsive persons who appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds.
Officers arrived while the New Haven Fire Department and American Medical Response personnel were rendering aid to a 52-year-old female and a 62-year-old male. Both victims were pronounced deceased on the scene.
The victims were transported to the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy will be performed.
A firearm was found and collected, and ballistic evidence was found on the scene.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit, Special Victims Unit, and Bureau of Identification responded to the scene to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and search for surveillance footage.
A household resident was present upon officers' arrival and spoke with detectives.
Police say an active investigation is underway, and at this time they consider this to be an isolated incident.
