New Haven police investigating fatal shooting, victim identified

This is the first confirmed homicide of the year in New Haven.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A man is dead after a fatal shooting in New Haven on Friday evening. 

New Haven police said they received a report of a gunshot victim at a residence on Carmel Street between Whalley Avenue and Percival Street at 1:45 p.m.

Officers found a 45-year-old man at the residence and officers began giving aid until medical personnel arrived. 

The man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. He's been identified as Gregory Perez. 

A shot spotter was not activated in the area and ballistic evidence was found on the scene

This is the first confirmed homicide in New Haven for 2024.

An active investigation is underway. Police are asking anyone who witnesses the incident or has any information to call detectives at 203-946-6304 or through the department's anonymous tip line at 866-888-TIPS.
