Baby's death investigated by New Haven police

The department called the death of the infant "suspicious".

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven police are investigating the death of an infant Wednesday that they called "suspicious".

Police said at 12:04 p.m. Wednesday, they were called to a home on Farren Avenue for an unresponsive baby. When they arrived, they found a 10-month-old infant not breathing, and efforts to revive the child were unsuccessful. 

Farren Avenue is in the East Shore section of the city, just north of Interstate-95. 

The infant was taken to the hospital by ambulance but the infant was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and the Bureau of Identification arrived on the scene to initiate an investigation into the suspicious death of the infant. Police said the cause of the baby's death is unknown, and an investigation and autopsy will determine the cause and manner of death.
