NEW HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven police are investigating a social media post that reportedly contained threats of violence against officers and Hillhouse High School.
Police said they were alerted to a "concerning Instagram message" passed around amongst students and staff at the school on Tuesday.
The New Haven Detective Bureau began the investigation into the message and found the student responsible through an IP location of the account.
According to investigators, the student admitted to making the post and claimed: "It was a joke." Officials said the student is under a mental health evaluation, and charges will be sought.
“We take threats of violence very seriously, and we will do everything in our power to investigate and address these threats,” said Chief of Police Karl Jacobson. “We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents and will take all necessary actions to achieve that goal.”
Police said any threats of violence are a serious offense, and those responsible will be held accountable. Anyone with information regarding similar incidents is asked to come forward and help prevent them in the future.
