New Haven voters approve measure to make terms 4 years

The mayor and the aldermen will go from two year terms to four.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Voters in the Elm City voted to increase the terms of the mayor and the aldermen from the current two years to four years in the election on Tuesday. 

Mayor Justin Elicker's third term will not be impacted by the changes as they will not take effect until 2027. 

The changes in the charter also include increasing the terms of the aldermen from two to four years as well, They will also get a bump in salary and cost of living increases. 

The measure passed 6986 to 3990.
