No injuries reported after shooting just outside of Yale New Haven Hospital

Photos from a FOX61 crew at the scene show police cruisers, and yellow tape strung up on the sidewalk.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A shooting just outside of Yale New Haven Hospital led to a large police presence Monday afternoon. Officials said there were no reports of anyone being injured.

The incident happened after 3:30 p.m. according to hospital spokesperson Mark D'Antonio. The hospital is operating as usual, he said.

The incident happened on nearby York Street, near the emergency department, said D'Antonio.

New Haven police are taking the lead on the investigation.

Police Chief Karl Jacobson said they received a shot spotter activation and several 911 calls of shots fired near the hospital. Jacobson said a dispute happened several blocks away, near Howard Ave and 2nd St., between two vehicles.

One vehicle attempted to flee the area as they were being chased by the other car. The victims came to the hospital for safety and when they pulled in, the other car was following them. Police said the people in the other car fired shots at their car but didn’t hit them, and hit the car once. A nearby parking booth was also struck by a bullet.

Police said the suspect then drove off. Police have eyes on the suspect's car, but they are not releasing any descriptions of it at this time.

Chief Jacobson made it clear that the hospital was not targeted in this incident, and neither was anyone in the hospital. He said the risk to the public is low. However, police will remain on the scene and have an extra presence at the hospital just as a precaution.
