NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A 16-year-old is in critical condition after a shooting near Goffe Street Park in New Haven on Friday.
Police responded to a shots fired call from witnesses and shot spotter just before 3 p.m. where they found the victim laying on the side of the street. Additional information about their condition was not available at the time of publication.
New Haven police say two juveniles were arrested nearby but they do not believe they are connected to the incident. One of them was in possession of a firearm with an extended magazine. They were found just up the street from the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing.
New Haven Public Schools confirmed to FOX61 that a school bus carrying students was passing by at the time of the incident. The students and driver witnessed the shooting, and the bus was struck by a stray bullet. The bus driver and students laid down when the shots were fired and none of them were injured.
The Mayo Early Learning Center was temporarily locked down for safety, added the spokesperson. No one at the center was injured.
