NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A woman jogging was assaulted Thursday morning in New Haven, according to police.
Around 6:15 a.m. the New Haven Police Department received a report of an assault on a 38-year-old woman who had been jogging in the area of Yale Avenue and Edgewood Avenue when a man approached her and and showed her a firearm.
The unknown man attempted to force her into a nearby wooded area and struck her in the face according to police. She was able to flee the area and return home. The suspect fled the area into Edgewood Park.
The victim was treated on the scene by emergency crews for minor injuries. Patrol K-9 Officers conducted a search that failed to yield results for the suspect.
Special Victims Unit Detectives responded to the scene of the crime to speak with witnesses and obtain surveillance footage. The investigation is ongoing, detectives are attempting to determine the motive of the assault.
Police said they were committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community and ask the community to be vigilant of their surroundings.
