Red Cross begins relief efforts to help Oxford residents following devastating flood

Red Cross leaders said they want to help anyone who needs it, no questions asked. You do not have to show any form of ID or proof of damage to receive help.

OXFORD, Connecticut — As the Oxford community continues to clean up after investigating flood waters swept through town, the Red Cross is also beginning relief operations.

On Wednesday the organization will be at the Quarry Walk shopping center with food and cleaning supplies as part of the first efforts to help flood victims in their return to normalcy.

It will be months before the towns of Oxford and Southbury regain any sense of normalcy, but this is one small relief option that can provide immediate help.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Quarry Walk. The Red Cross volunteers will hand out food, clean-up kits, and water and have people on standby to answer questions about disaster relief resources, information, and connections.

First responders are also encouraged to stop by to get food or relief information if they need it.

Red Cross leaders said they want to help anyone who needs it, no questions asked. You do not have to show any form of ID or proof of damage to receive help.

This is one of many options for relief in this region.

Oxford Public Schools will also organize relief efforts through an online survey that questions what kind of help a victim needs. One of their efforts is to help people get a roof over their heads if they need one.

That survey can be found here.

Many people are also turning to GoFundMe to recover the costs of their damaged homes and businesses. There are several verified pages for specific people.

See the list here.

Town leaders are also starting to meet to find solutions, both long-term and short-term, that will help people in need.

The town of Southbury also has a callout for anyone who needs help contacting town hall officials.
