PLYMOUTH, Connecticut — The Plymouth Police Department hosted its annual trunk-or-treat on Saturday.
The event has been going on for three years and is held in the police department's parking lot. Officers say it’s a great way to interact with the community.
“We want to have a safe environment for kids and their families to come out and enjoy the holiday,” Plymouth Police Det. Sgt. Cesar Beiros said. “So, we thought we’d put this on. This is our third year of doing it. It’s a great time; we always get a big group of people coming out.”
Those that participate enjoy dressing up and handing out candy.
Samantha Smith, owner of Wicked Hair and Beauty, said she enjoys seeing how many kids come through and how the officers put on a great event for them.
Kids dressed up in many different costumes on Saturday.
Parents say this event is safe and that’s why they come year after year.
“We’ll still go trick-or-treating, but we do enjoy these events because they are a lot safer for the kids in general,” Brittany Wood said. “They have a lot more fun, and they usually see their friends from school.”
The event also gives back to the Plymouth Food Bank.
“Everybody brings a small donation to the food pantry,” Beiros said. “We fill up their shelves and everyone’s happy. Free candy and some good stuff for the food pantry.”
