SOUTHBURY, Conn. — Southbury police are investigating after an older woman was robbed of her purse Wednesday, according to the town's police department.
Police said that officers went to the Southbury Library at 3:17 p.m. after receiving a report about an 80-year-old woman who had her purse snatched.
Investigators learned that a suspect robbed the woman in the library parking lot by forcibly taking the purse from her after a brief struggle while she was getting into her car, according to police.
According to police, they are looking for a black Cadillac XT5 with a Rhode Island registration 1BR577, which they confirmed to be stolen out of Stonington. One of the suspects was noted to have jumped out of the passenger side and was described as being a five-foot-eight white male with a black shirt, black shorts and a blue "surgical style" face mask.
The Cadillac took off at a high speed before officers arrived, police said.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked by police to contact Ofc. El-Ayoub at 203-264-5912. If the suspect vehicle is spotted, people are asked to stay away and call police.
All calls will remain confidential, according to police.
People are also asked to watch out for their surroundings while entering and leaving vehicles and to "stay vigilant."
