NORTH HAVEN, Conn. — A man from The Bronx, N.Y. was arrested in North Haven on Thursday after allegedly trying to steal a package from a residence on Corey Road, the North Haven Police Department reports.
Police say Heriberto Perez-Cabral ran from the scene after he was confronted by a homeowner when attempting to take a package containing a new iPad. Perez-Cabral was reportedly observed getting into a dark Honda with tinted windows that was parked down the street.
According to police, responding North Haven officers found the vehicle traveling on Clintonville Road. Perez-Cabral was taken into custody soon after and charged with fourth-degree criminal attempt to commit larceny.
Perez-Cabral was issued a $2,500 bond. On Facebook, North Haven police warned residents about the dangers being posed by porch pirates.
“There have been a rash of similar crimes being committed around the region,” the police department posted. “If you are ordering electronics, use caution as suspects may be tracking the deliveries and plan to take the packages when delivered.”
