PROSPECT, Conn. — A person was shot and killed by a Prospect police officer on Friday evening.
Connecticut State Police said Prospect Police responded at 4:49 p.m. to a report of a suspicious incident at an address on Merriman Lane, a dead-end street off of Summit Road.
Shortly after arriving at the address, investigators made contact with an individual.
A Prospect officer at the scene discharged their weapon at the individual, causing injury, state police said.
EMS responded to the address and the individual was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
No other persons in the surrounding area were injured.
There is no ongoing threat to the public.
This is an ongoing investigation led by the Office of the Inspector General, assisted by the Waterbury State’s Attorney, detectives from the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad and Troop I.
This is the third deadly shooting by a Connecticut police officer in the past five days.
