WALLINGFORD, Conn. — Wallingford has a new mayor-elect for the first time in 40 years.
Republican Vincent Cervoni was elected by Wallingford voters to succeed current longtime Mayor William Dickinson, who announced earlier this year he would not seek reelection for a 21st term.
Cervoni received 7,732 votes, beating a challenge from Democrat Riley O'Connell, who received 6,697 votes, with 100% of precincts reporting.
Cervoni has served as Republican Town Council Chair since 2014. He was first elected to the council in 2009.
A lawyer since 1994, Cervoni is proud of his Italian heritage. His platform includes support for emergency responders, fiscal responsibility, and updating the town's technology. He also wants to study the consolidation of the town's high schools, Mark Sheehan High and Lyman Hall High School.
O'Connell ran for mayor in 2021 against Dickinson. He attended Choate Rosemary Hall and earned his bachelor's degree at Bowdoin College, where he double majored in Government and Environmental Studies. His platform includes instituting direct deposit for town employees and giving residents the option to pay bills online
