WATERBURY, Conn. — A man was arrested at a home in Waterbury Friday night after police responded to a "domestic disturbance," resulting in the suspect firing a gun at police.
Waterbury police were called to a home on Albion Street after a 911 call hang-up. Police determined it was a domestic altercation, as responding officers heard a man and a woman arguing inside and the man threatening to kill the victim.
When officers entered the home, 31-year-old Jemale Foster tried to stop them from coming inside, police said. He pulled out a handgun and fired a round toward one of the officers while trying to run from the home, according to police. The officer was not hit, police said.
Officers managed to disarm Foster and ended up finding a second loaded gun inside his pants pocket. Police also found a high-capacity magazine and cocaine at the scene.
The 30-year-old victim got minor injuries from a fight with Foster that happened before police arrived. Foster, along with officers at the scene, were also treated for minor injuries.
Forster was arrested and faced multiple assault and firearms charges, including interfering with a 911 call, assault, threatening, two counts of carrying a pistol without a permit, and criminal possession of a firearm.
He is being held on a $1.5 million bond and is scheduled to be in court on Dec. 26.
Foster is a convicted felon for carrying a firearm without a permit in December 2017, which means he's not allowed to have any firearms or ammunition, according to police.
