The Linden Place Apartments on Linden Street in Waterbury are now open.

WATERBURY, Conn. — An expansion of affordable housing units in Waterbury continues as the Linden Place Apartments are officially open and available.

According to a release from state Rep. Geraldo Reyes (D-Waterbury), Gov. Ned Lamont, Housing Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno, Waterbury Mayor Paul Pernerewski and others were on-hand this week to celebrate the grand opening on Linden Street.

The development includes a total of 44 brand-new units in two apartment buildings. The new buildings are home to affordable and market rate housing in the Hillside neighborhood.

Reyes says the buildings will help tackle the housing shortage by providing affordable, modern apartments to residents.

“They are designed to be both stylish and budget-friendly, giving more people access to comfortable living spaces,” Reyes said. “By using up-to-date building methods and smart designs, these units aim to improve the quality of life while keeping costs down. Overall, they are a big step toward solving the problem of finding affordable housing in the area.”

The new units are still on the market. Reyes believes they have breathed life back into another part of the 75th district.

To clear space for the development, crews knocked down a blighted building, cleared a vacant parking lot and erased an abandoned home. This is not the first project in Waterbury to transform a neighborhood into an affordable housing project. One on Abbot Terrace and another on Adam Street are expected to make a difference.

Linden Place Apartments were recently built on a blighted property. They include 44 brand new units.

“The 75th district is taking advantage of much-needed opportunities to revitalize neighborhoods with new, affordable housing,” Reyes said. “We will continue to be the epicenter for this movement with more blighted areas in the process of new development.”

Reyes represents the 75th District in Waterbury and is a member of the Appropriations, Environment and Transportation Committees as well as the Joint Committee on Legislative Management.
