WATERBURY, Conn. — Connecticut State Police troopers said they responded to a Waterbury commuter lot early Tuesday morning after a man allegedly brandished a gun in a “road rage type incident.”

Gentjan Korcari, 47, of Southington was charged with threatening in the first degree with a firearm and breach of peace in the second degree, state police said, after troopers assigned to Troop A in Southbury made their way to the I-84 Exit 23 commuter lot around 6:36 a.m.

State police met with two people who said they were threatened by Korcari during the incident.

Korcari, who was driving a black Mercedes E550 with a Connecticut license plate, allegedly followed the driver of a pickup truck into the commuter lot, state police said.

According to state police, Korcari then exited his car and began yelling at the truck driver that they passed his companion’s vehicle in an unsafe manner and almost caused a crash.

According to an individual who was waiting for the truck driver in the commuter lot, Korcari allegedly cut the driver off around Union Avenue and Hamilton Avenue, nearly resulting in a collision. The truck driver explained that Korcari gestured for them to pull into the commuter lot, state police said.

Both people allege that Korcari continued yelling and pulled a silver handgun out of his pocket, pointing it toward the ground, making both individuals feel threatened, state police said.

The two said Korcari put the weapon back into his pocket, reentered his car and fled the scene when they said they called the police.

One of the two individuals took photos of Korcari, his car and his license plate, which investigating troopers used to identify Korcari.

State police said troopers initially attempted to contact Korcari in Waterbury but failed to locate him. They connected with him via phone a short time later and he agreed to meet with them at the I-84 Exit 26 commuter lot in Cheshire.

Korcari arrived in a Chevrolet pickup truck and explained to troopers that he and a companion were traveling in separate cars in the center lane of Hamilton Avenue, state police said.

According to troopers, Korcari told them that a pickup truck was in the left lane to turn left but continued straight when the light turned green, nearly striking his companion, and allegedly striking his Mercedes E550.

State police said Korcari relayed to them that he told the driver of the pickup truck to enter the commuter lot and that several individuals approached his car when he arrived there. One person was allegedly yelling, making Korcari feel threatened.

Korcari also acknowledged that he pulled his handgun from his jacket pocket to display it, but he said he did not completely remove it.

The investigation found that Korcari brought the gun to his residence before meeting with the troopers, state police said.

Based on the investigation and his acknowledgment that he displayed the gun, Korcari was placed under arrest. The weapon was later seized as evidence.

Korcari was released on a $40,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Waterbury Superior Court on April 24.
