WATERBURY, Conn — A 13-year-old is accused of sharing a social media post that targeted several public schools in Waterbury, according to police.
Waterbury police got information on the threatening social media post around 11:30 p.m. Monday. An investigation revealed that a 13-year-old boy is connected to the threat and that the threat is not credible.
The teen was arrested and was charged with breach of peace and threatening.
"All threats against our schools are taken extremely seriously, and a thorough investigation is conducted to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the community," said Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo. "We urge residents to report any suspicious activity or threats to the police immediately. The safety of our community is our top priority, and we will hold those responsible accountable for their actions."
Several other students, including in Ansonia and Milford, have also faced arrests in recent weeks after a slew of school threats. None of these threats have been deemed credible.
An elementary school in New Britain went into lockdown Monday after a threat was called into the school's main office. Extra police presence was at the New Britain school Tuesday with a normal schedule.
