Teen arrested in Waterbury school threat case

The boy is a student at Crosby High School.

WATERBURY, Conn. — Waterbury police arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with a threat Wednesday against Crosby High School.

Wednesday afternoon, at 4:08 p.m., police received information regarding a social media post which referenced a threat of “shooting” at Crosby High School. Police investigated and identified a 15-year-old student who attended the school who police believe to have been responsible for the posting, which was determined to be non credible.

The teen was charged with Breach of Peace 2nd Degree and Threatening in Second Degree.

Several hours later, police received information of separate, additional social media post which also referenced a threat of “shooting” at a school but made no reference of any specific school or location. There was no reference made about any school in Waterbury.

Police said the originator of this post is unknown and at this time remains under investigation. Police have increased their presence and patrols around the city schools.

"All threats against our schools are taken extremely seriously and a thorough investigation is conducted to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the community. We urge residents to report any suspicious activity or threats to the police immediately," said police in a press release.  "The safety of our community is our top priority, and we will hold those responsible accountable for their actions."
