WATERBURY, Conn. — Firefighters in Waterbury were called to a major fire on Crown Street Monday night, which involved two buildings.
Fire officials said they were called to the corner of Crown and Barnes Streets shortly before 8:30 p.m. for a fire in a vacant triple-decker home that had been boarded up. Arriving firefighters found heavy fire on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
The fire melted the siding off of a neighboring home and began to spread to that building's attic. Firefighters were able to minimize the damage to that home, which was also unoccupied because it is under renovation.
Fire officials said the heat was so intense the siding on the building across the street also began to melt. But firefighters were able to douse the flames in under an hour, and no injuries were reported.
Because the vacant property is so dilapidated, firefighters did not attempt to enter it. Officials said they wouldn't begin to investigate the cause until the morning when daylight will make it a little safer.
This is a developing story.
