WATERBURY, Conn. — A Hartford teen wanted in connection to a shooting homicide in Waterbury last November was arrested nearly a year later after police said he was found driving a stolen vehicle.
Waterbury police arrested a 17-year-old boy on Tuesday evening in connection to the shooting death of Joseph Zavala, who was 18 when he was shot on Nov. 18, 2023, in the area of North Main Street and Kingsbury Street. Zavala died from injuries at the hospital.
The 17-year-old was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, murder, carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and reckless endangerment.
The 17-year-old is the fifth suspect to be arrested in connection to Zavala's death. The four other suspects arrested in the past year include Jada Ellis, Nigel Robinson, Duane Mercer - all of Waterbury - and another teen.
The 17-year-old was initially arrested Tuesday night after being found as the driver of a vehicle that was reported stolen out of New Haven. He faces several larceny and vehicle violation charges. A 22-year-old Waterbury woman in the passenger seat was also arrested and faces larceny charges.
