WATERBURY, Conn. — A Waterbury school student was arrested Tuesday after a BB gun was found inside their locker, according to city police.
Police responded to Gilmartin Elementary School, which serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade, on Tuesday after staff at the school suspected a 14-year-old student of having a firearm on school grounds.
Police said officers found a BB gun inside the student's backpack, which was in their locker.
The student was taken into custody and charged with breach of peace, weapons on school grounds and brandishing a facsimile firearm.
"The Waterbury Police Department commends the swift action of school staff in reporting the incident, which helped ensure the safety of students and faculty," police said on Wednesday in a news release.
