WATERBURY, Connecticut — Waterbury police charged two local men with murder in connection with a fatal stabbing last Friday.
The stabbing killed 37-year-old Jose Virola of Delaware.
According to officials, investigators believe Virola was involved in an "earlier disturbance" with a woman in the area, which led to a fight between him, 52-year-old Barry Mason, and 33-year-old Sean Lawrence. Police said that Lawrence, Mason, and the woman knew each other.
It was during that fight in which Virola was stabbed and was later found dead outside of a home on 1st Avenue, according to officials.
The stabbing was initially investigated as a suspicious death and was later changed to a homicide investigation.
Police have not released additional details regarding the incident leading up to the stabbing.
Lawrence was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with murder, first-degree assault and first-degree conspiracy to commit assault. He was held on a $3 million bond.
Mason was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with murder, first-degree assault, first-degree conspiracy to commit assault, and other failure to appear warrants that were unrelated to the investigation. He was held on a bond of over $4.3 million and is set to appear in court Friday.
