WATERBURY, Conn. — Police have arrested a Waterbury woman and charged her with the death of an infant in her care last year.
Cynthia Hannah, 35, of Waterbury, turned herself in to police Tuesday. She was charged with five counts of risk of injury to a child, manslaughter in the first degree, assault and reckless endangerment.
Hannah was held on a $100,000 bond and was arraigned in court Wednesday.
Police said they have been in contact with the Connecticut Department of Children and Families as part of this investigation.
On Oct. 5, 2022, police were called to an apartment on Green Street on a medical assistance complaint regarding a one-year-old child who was not breathing.
The child was in the care of Hannah at the time. The child was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital and then to Yale New Haven Hospital.
Five days later, the child was pronounced dead by medical staff at Yale New Haven Hospital. In June, the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the incident to be a homicide based on the child’s autopsy and sustained injuries.
Investigators said Hannah was identified as a suspect and an arrest warrant was obtained on last week charging Hannah in connection with the death of the one-year-old child.
