WEST HAVEN, Conn. — Six people were arrested after an overnight street takeover involving multiple cars early Saturday in West Haven, police said.
Officers received multiple 911 calls around 2 a.m. reporting people standing in the road near Boston Post Road and Campbell Ave, police said. There were also reports of cars doing "donuts" in the street.
As police from West Haven and neighboring departments arrived on the scene, people on the street began throwing fireworks at officers. Officers surrounded the area and arrested six people, including four adults and two youths, police said.
Connecticut State Police also responded to a call for assistance from West Haven police.
"Any attempts at "street takeovers" and/or blocking the roadways denying our citizens access to public safety will not be tolerated," police said in a Facebook post. "Our agency will continue to investigate this and hold all parties involved accountable."
More arrests are anticipated after a large amount of video evidence was collected, police said.
