Police were called to an apartment on a domestic violence complaint in the early morning hours Friday.

WEST HAVEN, Conn. — A man is dead and an officer injured after a shooting involving police in West Haven overnight, officials said.

Just before 2 a.m., officers were called to an apartment on Terrace Avenue for a domestic violence complaint.

While they were investigating the incident, a man drew a gun and shot one of the officers in the leg, according to officials. Another officer at the scene then returned fire.

Officials said the man was given CPR and other medical attention at the scene before he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He's not been identified at this time.

The injured officer was also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Officer of the Inspector General, the Milford State's Attorney Office, and the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad are investigating the shooting.
