WEST HAVEN, Conn — One person is dead and two others, including a police officer, were injured following an early morning crash Monday in West Haven according to police.
Police said they were called to the Citgo gas station on Derby Ave. at 2:20 a.m. after a Hyundai Elantra, traveling at a high rate of speed struck a police cruiser in the parking lot.
According to police, the driver and passenger of the Hyundai suffered serious injuries. The officer also suffered a serious head injury. All three were taken to the hospital and the passenger of the Hyundai died from his injuries.
The officer and driver of the Hyundai are expected to recover from their injuries, according to police.
The West Haven Major Accident Squad is investigating. Because the crash happened off the road. Derby Avenue remained opened during the investigation.
This is still an active investigation.
