WOLCOTT, Conn. — Editor's Note: The video above is from August 2023.
Two mothers are facing charges after a car crash resulted in a child being ejected from the vehicle’s hatchback, Wolcott police announced Thursday.
The crash happened on Aug. 18 around 7:30 p.m. when a Ford Focus traveling north on Woodtick Road crossed the center line. When it over-corrected, it went off the roadway and landed on its side.
Inside the vehicle were two adults and eight children – three of whom were in the vehicle hatchback.
One of the children in the hatchback – a 10-year-old boy – was ejected and ended up beneath the vehicle, police said. He was pulled from under the car by other motorists and was seriously injured with a severe laceration in his back.
The other people in the vehicle had minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
On Nov. 15, the driver and the front seat passenger turned themselves in to Wolcott police after learning there were warrants for their arrest.
Jamie Lee Madore, 36, of Bristol, who was the driver of the Ford Focus, is facing multiple charges, including reckless driving and risk of injury to a minor. She was released on a $50,000 bond.
Elezebeth Farina, 36, of Waterbury, is facing multiple charges of risk of injury to a minor. She was released on a $20,000 bond.
Both women are set to appear in Waterbury Superior Court at a later date.
