MYSTIC, Conn. — One Connecticut restaurant made New York Times' list of best restaurants in America for 2024, released Tuesday.
In the latest edition of NYT's Restaurant List, The Shipwright's Daughter in Mystic represents Connecticut among 49 other food spots across the U.S.
According to the article, the NYT team spent the last year traveling across the country in search of restaurants with a focus on "spaces as much as places."
NYT noted the Mystic seafood and American restaurant as a "refined but deceptively-casual entry from David Standridge," the executive chef who won the James Beard Award for "Best Chef" of the Northeast in 2024.
"His website's paean to sustainability and local seafood (including undervalued species like sea robin, green crab and limpets) is more than backed up by dishes like velvety roasted oysters and a delicate batter-fried fillet of whiting," NYT's Patrick Farrell wrote. "But the highlights here range far beyond the sea: inventive pastas built around the produce of the moment, an exemplary roast chicken and the crispy pig’s head, a voluptuous take on tête de veau that should become a tourist attraction in itself."
According to the restaurant's website, other awards and accolades include the Connecticut Restaurant Association's "Restaurant of the Year" in 2022, the James Beard Foundation's "Smart Catch Leader" in 2023 and Connecticut Magazine's best restaurant list in 2023.
