VOLUNTOWN, Conn. — The deaths of a man and woman who were found dead at a home in Voluntown Wednesday have been ruled a murder suicide according to Connecticut State Police.
State police said at 11:26 a.m., personnel from Troop E- Montville were dispatched to a home on Hell Hollow Rd. in Voluntown after receiving a 911 call from a woman.
Troopers said the woman gave the address of the home and said, "Emergency, I'm sorry," before hanging up.
A man was found dead in the driveway, according to state police.
Michael Zannini, 69, death has been ruled a homicide as a result of gunshot wounds. Jacqueline Zannini, 65, of the same address, death has been ruled a suicide as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The pair were married and resided together at this address by themselves.
Troopers used megaphones on their cruisers to call out to anyone still inside the home, but state police said that no one answered, prompting them to set up a perimeter around the area.
After pinging the cellphones of the residents who lived in the home, state police said they received a signal from a woman's cellphone from within the residence. A drone was used to fly inside one of the windows in the home and found the woman dead in the stairwell.
State police said that the investigation was being turned over to the Eastern Major District Crimes Squad and that the identities of those who died will be released at a later time.
There is no ongoing threat to the public, according to state police.
Neighbors within a one mile radius were asked to shelter-in-place and anyone traveling within the vicinity was asked to avoid the area during the investigation. People in the area later received a reverse-911 message that the shelter-in-place had been lifted.
CSP Emergency Services Unit and the Drone Unit had been dispatched to assist with this investigation.
