1.8 magnitude earthquake detected in southeastern part of Connecticut

LEDYARD, Conn. — An earthquake measuring 1.8 magnitude shook Ledyard on Thursday morning, with neighbors in Stonington feeling its effects.

The earthquake hit at about 8:20 a.m. ET in Ledyard, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The Town of Stonington said they investigated reports of "loud booms and shaking of buildings" about an hour later.

There have been no reports of damage or injuries as a result of the earthquake at this time. Citizens who reported the earthquake to the USGS indicated that the intensity was either weak or light.
