Norwich man killed in motorcycle crash: Police

The operator was speeding on Fort Hill Road when he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with a parked Jeep in the plaza.

GROTON, Conn. — A 21-year-old Groton man has died after the motorcycle he was operating collided with a parked vehicle overnight Friday.

Police responded to Midway Plaza at 33 Fort Hill Road around 12:45 a.m. for a report of a crash.

Responding police found a 2024 Kawasaki ZX-400 down on the road and the operator, identified as Elijah W. Hummel, nearby with serious injuries.

Police determined that Hummel was speeding on the westbound side of Fort Hill Road when he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with a parked Jeep in the plaza.

Hummel was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but later died, according to police.

Fort Hill Road between Depot Road and South Road was temporarily closed as police crews investigated the scene; the area has since reopened to traffic.
