GROTON, Conn. — Mystic residents are voicing support after a beloved pizza restaurant closed its doors over the weekend.
Pizzetta, located at 7 Water St., announced Sunday on its Facebook page that it would be its last day open.
"We cannot thank you enough for the love and support you have continued to show over the years," the restaurant said. "While encouraging you to keep the Pizzetta energy alive, focusing on the positive memories, and telling stories of the good times that were had by all, we hope that you look forward to the future and the exciting changes that are to come."
Pizzetta was known for its dietary-friendly menus. The restaurant hosted menus covering dietary restrictions such as lactose intolerance, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan. It was also a dog-friendly establishment.
Facebook commenters expressed their sadness at the loss of the pizzeria and its menu choices.
"Such a shame! So few plant-based options around," said one user.
"The only place I could get [a gluten-free] and [dairy-free] pizza," another comment said.
The comments also featured people who stopped by while visiting the state.
"Absolutely the first stop on my regular visits over from the U.K. to Mystic," one comment said. "You will be sadly missed, but thank you for your delicious food, relaxing ambiance and the many happy memories!"
The restaurant did not state why it abruptly closed.
