Babcock died when his truck overturned into a creek.

PRESTON, Connecticut — A Lisbon firefighter died in a crash Sunday evening when his pickup rolled over into a stream.

Lt. Matthew Babcock was driving his 2003 Dodge Ram on Rt. 164 when police said he lost control and slid into oncoming traffic, where it collided with a Toyota Camry. The pickup overturned into a ditch, and landed on its roof, partially submerged in a creek.

Police said Babcock died as a result of the crash.

The driver and passenger were injured and taken to Backus Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

In a Facebook post, the Lisbon Fire Department said, "Matt leaves behind a wife and three kids as well as all his sports kids. Matt was a dedicated member of the department for the past 12 years, involved in the planning and running of the annual Santa Run, Easter Bunny Parade, Fire prevention and parading his love of the department Tanker 154 as well as the new Fire Station. Matt was also dedicated and involved in the area youth sports leagues, events for the Lisbon Schools and the Griswold High School.
