NEW LONDON, Conn. — Twelve people are facing charges after an assault in New London on April 29, including the victim's aunt and mother, police said Monday.
According to police, on April 30, officers were made aware of a social media video that showed a 13-year-old victim being assaulted, reportedly by their boyfriend and a family member.
Through an investigation, police determined that the incident happened on April 29 at 6:10 p.m. in the O'Reilly Auto Parts store parking lot on Colman Street. Police said they learned from the video that the victim's aunt, identified as Keosha Muriel, 29, was involved in the assault, along with a group of 10 youths who were either "assaulting or observing" the incident take place "over an extended period of time."

Keosha Muriel is facing charges of cruelty to persons, risk of injury, assault in the third degree, breach of peace in the second degree, unlawful restraint in the first degree and reckless endangerment in the second degree.
The victim's mother, who police identified as Idinah Muriel, 32, was also at the scene during the assault. Police said they determined in the investigation that she had been involved in the planning of the assault. She is facing charges of cruelty to persons, risk of injury, reckless endangerment in the second degree, conspiracy assault in the third degree, conspiracy breach of peace in the second degree, and conspiracy unlawful restraint in the first degree
Idinah Muriel and Keosha Muriel were both arrested on Monday and are being held on $100,000 bonds. They were taken to New London Superior Court.
One of the youths aged 15 years old is facing charges of cruelty to persons, risk of injury to a minor, assault in the third degree, breach of peace in the second degree, unlawful restraint in the first degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree, sexual assault in the fourth degree, threatening in the second degree and strangulation in the second degree.
According to police, a youth aged 12 years old is facing charges of cruelty to persons, risk of injury to a minor, conspiracy to commit assault in the second degree, breach of peace in the second degree, unlawful restraint in the first degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree and sexual assault in the fourth degree.
The eight other youths involved in the incident are facing charges of conspiracy to commit risk of injury to a minor and conspiracy to commit cruelty to persons.
All 10 youths received summonses to appear in juvenile court, police said.
